Release form

Release Form
I needed to create a release form to make my music video more professional, it is also needed for the actor to sign so they have an agreement and understand that their image is only being used for purposes of my media coursework.

Risk Type

Risk type

I Needed to complete a table so i am aware of this risks, and how i will over come them. This is a necessary partof my planning as it will prepare me for risks which could happen or events which may occur and cause my music video to be prosponed, such as the preformer getting ill or something happening which may result in them not being apple to preform.

Album art

I have done some background research into album covers, i decided to look up different albums to give me ideas in which type of album to create, as i have now decided that the theme of my song is 'time' i will be using alot of imagery that will symbolise time and movement of time. I have taken this albujm cover by James blunt because he uses smaller images to create a bigger image of himself, this is something which i would like to create, my initial idea was to take pictures of various different clocks then put them together to create a collage. In this album i like the idea of the artists face being merged from the pictures, this also uses Goodwin's theory of 'star in text' which is a good idea to use for advertisment if the artist is already well known.

This is another album cover which I think is appealing, i like the idea of the collage once again. They have made a picture from using parts of their face and and animal. Using an animal divides up the picture but also contributes to the theme of the album, the album is called 'Only by the night' and they have used an Owl to highlight the theme of the album as the animal is also linked with darkness and night. I also like the idea of having the artists faces and the animal merged as it includes both the theme of the album and the artists.
This is taken from the kings of leon album also, i like the idea of having a creative artistic way of illustrating the songs instead of just simply numbering them in a usual way.
I like the idea of this album cover the Red Hot Chilli Peppers has used, they have used an object which looks like scales, i  like this idea and i could use it in my own as i will also be using a clock which would replace the idea of the scales. I also like the idea of having a mouth, they may have used this to illustrate the idea of music which is coming from their mouth and their voices.

Story board analysis

I have taken some print screens from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers video and analysed each shot. I choose this video because i is a conteceptual video with alot of symbolisim and hidden meanings to their actions, i like this video because although it is simple they have managed to create further meaning. i have bullet pointed the camera description and then described the mise en scene, this was challenging because although what you see on screen my be basic and clear, the message which is behind the actions is not.

Animatic

After drawing out all my pictures and putting them together on a storyboard i needed to use premiere to convert them into a video, being able to put the pictures together with the sound shows me how long i expect my clips to be in the video. Once i completed this peice of work i decided that i needed to add more effects in some of the clips as they may be too long to have in my video of just one simple image of the actor singing, although i still feel that this is a good idea and adds effect to the video i feel that i should shorten it to a length that would fit with usual music videos and this would help it maintain a proffesional look. When i completed that task i decided to add more ideas to my video as having more will make my video look more creative. i also feel that this will benefit my video as some of the clips in  my video last musch longer than a conventional video clips should. Now i am able to compare my images to the time of the music and have a more precise fit with both images and sound.

Storyboarding

In this part of my planning I needed to sketch my storyboards out, these are all my images that I have thought of which I will be putting in my music video. Each image i drew out indiviually and themn loaded them onto photoshop, once i had done that i needed to describe each shot, i wrote i brief description of each shot, including the length of the shot and the type of shot.

All the images I have included relate to the lyrics of my music video, as you are able to see I have decided on a narrative music video, I partly chose real life filming combined with green screen to give a more unique feel. Once I have put all my images together I have more of an idea what my music video will look like. This is helpful because I have an outline of what the video will look like and now have my ideas stored in one place I can add more ideas to over time which I may think of in the process of making my video.

Contents Draft

I will use this as my contents, this will go in the middle of my digi pack, this is the first picture which is also of a clock, i wanted to keep the inside simple but also have alot of significance, i have chosen to keep it simple to represent the song which is simple but also has alot of meaning which also reffers back to time and its importance.

Album cover - Draft

this is an image which i have put together to show an idea which i may use for my album cover, i have decided to take photos of clocks in different locations and different types of clocks. Once i have made a collection of clocks i will put them together in a collage and use it as the base for my album cover, i would like to add a photo of the artist also for promotional reasons, the image i will use will be the face of the artist faded out so it is more subtle against the main images of the clocks. i will also also the album name time after the hit single, i will write this on a banner across the bottem of the cover so it stands out against the clocks.

Music Poster

This is advertisment for my single time, This is a draft i made with some ideas i have put together to give me an overall view of what the poster nay look like once the video is completed. I have gone for black and white which relates to the music video, i have used them specific colours for this to give a lifeless feel, the reason i want everything to look dark as the song is emotional so and understated. I also added a clock which is the main theme of the song, i blurred the clock so it looks as if it has is moving with alot of pace to emphasise the time going on, i have also used a hand reaching out, this would symbolise the artist reaching out for someone, the person who the song is written about as it is about time and love. I have written time at the bottem in the biggest writing to signify the importance, as it is the main thing people will see, i have chosen writting that have a distored look about it so it has a bit of character and age but also looks like the words are fading away or eroding due to the period of time it has been there. Putting an effect on the wording 'Lauren Chard' who is the artist also makes her name stand out, i have used this effect to generate perspective.

Project Proposal

For my A2 media studies coursework I will be producing a music video,  firstly I needed to choose  a song which I could put my ideas into on my video, the song I have chosen is Chase and Status time. The first reason I chose this song is because I enjoy the song and I also wanted to do a type of song which I could build a narrative to link with the lyrics, the song is also quite simple so I could build on ideas to make the song more interesting.  The type of video I have chosen to produce with this song is a narrative video which tells a story, this story may only take place over a short period of time, such as a week just to give an insight into the person’s life in which the lyrics are based around.
The music video I have chosen is quite unique because I have chosen I new genre of music - break beat, which is a style of music which has a collection of different sub-genres influencing the final piece of music (Hip hop, Funk, Jazz, Electro, Electronic dance). I feel that this type of music will be more popular because it does not have a selective group which they are able to aim the song at, neither male nor female and also fits into a variety of different music genres, for example it reached number 6 on the dance chart. As the duo ‘Chase and Status’ are not commonly known as the only became popular in the last few years, this may help me as audiences will not already have previous expectations about what the duo may produce as a music video.
I have already decided that I will be making a narrative video; I have chosen to keep it more realistic to be able to amplify the drama and realism within the video. The reason for this is because the song links with everyday dramas, which would be kept true to life where the audiences can relate to the song and the music video. Although I would like to keep the video as a narrative type of video, I may include green screen and studio locations to give my video a more professional and unique look, I may also choose effects which I will have to add to the video, or parts of the song which I may find difficult filming in an outside location. As I have chosen a simple song I am planning on keeping the music video fairly simple, I am not going to use to many people in my video to keep it less complicated, I will use a main character in the video, which will be a female, and try to keep the number of people in the video to a minimum. Upon release I have decided to use viral marketing because the song isn’t a well known song I would be able to make it more popular by putting in on websites such as face book and MySpace.

Holiday Diary

Holiday Diary

While in the summer holidays I have been gathering ideas for my media music video, doing pieces of coursework has helped me put ideas together which are taken from locations which I have travelled to and linked them with my video, and every day locations such as bedrooms, houses which will put the narrative together and give it a more realistic feel that I am going for. By going to certain places in the holidays gave me more visual ideas for the video, but due to the song I have chosen I have decided not to use iconic landmarks and keep the video simple.

Using my research in coursework has helped me explore different types of music videos, popular music videos which I have noted down in my iconic Music video stills also helped me to put together different ideas, obviously it would be difficult for me to make some of the videos I have found in the iconic music videos because I have limited amount of time, money and equipment to be able to get my video as professional looking as some, I also do not have as much experience in making music videos but with practise I will be able to create a more authentic look.

By looking at various locations it gave me different ideas about my music videos and linking the locations and mise en scene to the lyrics of the song. Also by having locations around me I am able to see what locations are available to me and which are more accessible to shoot a video in.

After all my research I decided on two songs, both are very similar because they both have dub step music in them, the first one I thought of was Adele – Someone like you remix, I decided on the remix because it has a faster beat which I can add a better narrative to, the second song I would like to do was Chase and status – time, I would prefer to do this one as it has more lyrics which I can add a wider range of narrative.

Overall I decided to choose chase and status because I can make a story with the lyrics and keep it simple but also have an authentic look, I will also not need to do many close ups with the artist singing which I would prefer not to do because it may be difficult keeping the song person singing in sync with the words, and would prefer to make it like a story.

Song lyric Analysis

10 Iconic music videos

Here i have print screened some iconic video stills, a few famous ones such as Michael Jackson - Thriller which, Britney Spears song from the 90's hit me baby one more time and other more recent iconic videos such as Ok Go - here it goes again song.
Michael Jackson - Thriller
The First most famous music video which i thought of was Micheal Jackson's Thriller, this was a smash hit in the 80's and became the best selling record of all time, Micheal Jackson was one of the first artists of his era to use his music video as a promotional package. Also once the video was made for this song, the dance also became popular world wide.
Kylie Monogue - Cant get you outta my head.
This is also an iconic music video, the song was a dance pop song released in 2001 and became kylie's signiture song. The video also became famous as the video was very contemporary and fresh at the time, with in the video were shots of kylie in very revealing clothes, the screen print that i have taken has a very contemporary and abstract look as Kyle has been made to look angelic compared to her background dancers.
Britney Spears - Hit me baby one more time
This is also another very famous videos, it was one of the first videos released by Britney, this was used to sell her and immeadately give her a signiture look as having such an iconic video asured her that she will always be remebered.
Village people - YMCA
I think this is another iconic video because due to this there is now a iconic dance which also goes with the song.
TLC -Waterfalls
I chose this video because the video was very contemporary at the time, it also became TLC's signiture song, which gave TLC an image of a new fresh girl group which do different types of songs.
Madonna - Like a Virgin
Like a virgin was the second album made by Madonna, i think this is iconic because everything with in the video represents the song lyrics, it was shot in a european country to give the full romantic fill, and Madonna even wore a white wedding dress to amplify the lyrics 'like a virgin', i think this was the video where people seen another side to Madonna and she become more of a sexual icon.
Ok Go - Here it goes
This video has become iconic because with such a simple song the artists have added a very complex video, they have a whole syncronised routine on tredmills which has given music videos a wider range of ideas which are avaliable to them with ease.
Destinys Child - Bootylicious
I feel that Bootylicious is an iconic music video because it was also another girl group which produced a new contemporary video, with different sections for each individual character, they also kept their music video simple but produced an upbeat video.
Missy Eliot - Get your Freak on
This is another video which has became popular music video, the music video made was very unique at the time, the song is combined music and the songs beat is based on bhangra, this video illustrates the lyrics well and gives it a dark mysterious twist.
Pink - Just like a pill
I feel that this music video is iconic because it breaks the mould with music videos, she includes many random parts in the music video, such as including animals such as elephants and rabits, i feel she done this to contrast the images in the video with the lyrics as the lyrics are quite distressed where as rabits are calming animals, also having the song about taking drugs may symbolise her hilucinations.

Location Reccie

Bedroom
As i am keeping my music video simple i am using places such as houses and bedrooms which give an every day story line, i may also use other rooms with in the house such as living room and kitchen to link with my story.

Train station
i have decided to use places such as train stations as the lyrics of the song relate to time, and i would like the visual to be time passing such as trains, or other forms of transport.
Motorway Bridge
this also links with the lyrics about time passing, using a location like this also would give more hidden meanings as bridges are also known to 'link' things together.
Northolt Hills
a place such as Northolt hills would be an ideal place to use for my video, it is local and easily accessible, places such as this will allow me to illustrate time, such as the cars passing.

Coursework Brief

A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video, together with two of the following three options:
· a cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package);
· a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package).

For my A2 coursework i have chosen to make a music video and a digi pack, the reason i have chosen to create a music video and package is because, of all options given this i though would have been the most interesting, and a different more challenging tast, which would enable me to illustrate my creative ideas and put them together in my coursework. Also by creating the CD cover will also alow me to show my photoshop skills which i developed in my AS coursework.

Digi Packs

Britney Spears - Baby one more time
This is one of Britney Spears first single covers, she is on her own, and she represents the music in a way as she is portrayed through the photograph as being child like and innocent which at the time represented her music which was targeted at young girls. The cover is bright bubble gum pink and has a happy upbeat picture of Britney on the front which represents the type of music Britney is selling which is class pop music.
The colors chosen link closely to what Britney was perceived to be back when the single was first released, which was an innocent school girl. The color pink is used to show off Britney's bubbly personality, and youth. Using light pink, also known as 'baby pink' may also link to the song, 'baby one more time' this may also be used to highlight her young age.
As we are able to see the image of Britney portrays a young innocent school girl. The way she is looking is inviting to the buyer as her head it tilted and she is looking up with a smile which is angelic. Her hair is seperated in the middle so her face is clearly visable, this may have been used to promote herself as she was a upcoming artist. Her pose also gives a more laid back feel, implying that she is ready to become a pop idol.
The clothes which she is wearing also represents her youth, as she wears a mini jean mini skirt which gives a more sexy feel as she is revealing most of her legs, but is covered up with a cardigan over her top which again reminds us of her youth and innocence. Her clothes remain simple yet trendy, not taking away attention from Britney's face which would be the most important feature.
The Writing on the cover also signify youth as the 'Britney Spears' is written in italic writing which also looks girly, or just like a doodle Britney may have done.
Over all the cover has been kept simple so it has not taken attention away from the main feature which is Britney, this cover would have been used to promote Britney and to get her face known to the public and give her an identity.

Rihanna - Loud
This is a digipack made for Rihanna's album loud. The main color used is red, as rihanna is notorious for her bright red hair, and this is the main color which dominates the whole of the digipack. Having the main picture of Rihanna's face as a close up also brings the red to the audience's attention, it highlights to main features of her which is her hair and lips, this suggests a more sexy and passionate feel also bringing a closeness between the audience and Rihanna. The image is what dominate the front cover and is quite strong, however she has her eyes closed which creates a sense of vulnerability indicating that she is not purely 'hardcore' and has a passionate side to music also.
All the aspects of  the digipack suggest seductive and passion as close ups of Rihannas lips are used, and pictures of her stretched across a bed of roses also indicated romance and passion, yet this is in contrast the the name of the album 'Loud' as everything in the digipack seems subtle even the wording of the cover 'Loud' which is written in soft white writing, for such a name you would expect big bold letters which stand out which may suggest that having her image is more important than the words as this may also be used for promotional purposes as she is now know to be the sexy red head.

Beyonce - Diva
Beyonce being a well known music artist has used black and white on the front of her album cover, this may suggest that she is already an established singer and colors such as black and white show that she is much older and wiser amd gives a more antique feel to the album. the background of the cover seems to be patchy in certain areas of light which makes the image of beyonce stand out as she is shown in a darker color. The background gives a sense of a smokescreen in maybe indicating that beyonce has just appeared, from darkness, this may also suggest to the audience although she has been away she is now making a come back.
The pose in which Beyonce holds is very masculine. Her hands on her hips shows attitude and characteristics of herself being a 'Diva'. She is also has her legs spread apart connotes  dominance and suggests that Beyonce is  here to stay. The clothes in which she wears are also masculine but have a contrasting sexy feel as she wears stiletto boots with laces up them, indicating that she is secure. her outfit is very fitted and seems to be leather and she has flames n her jacket which may indicate her fiery dominant personality. although Beyonce's pose and clothing may suggest 'serious' and 'authoritative' this contrasts with her sleek hair which is let down, indicating that she may not be all serious, and gives a sense of her being more laid back.
Although every sense of the cover would link the masculinity, the writing in contrast is very glamorous, and femnine with a sleek font, in a silvery color which may show the other side to the diva Beyonce, that she inst all a hardcore exterior.

Research

Resource Audit Analysis

The resource Audit is where I have put down ideas for my music videos, like a plan I have included all the details I would need to have when making a Music video. The first part of the resource audit I focused on the actors which would be apart of my music video, most of the people I needed for the video where friends that I know from school, I chose particular people to feel the places of particular characters which I am thinking about having in my music video. I also chose people that I new could perform and had some acting skills, as I am thinking about doing a video which some people may have to dance I needed to be careful and choose someone who is able to dance and is trained in dancing.
The next step was choosing the appropriate locations for the music video. I need to choose locations which would link to the lyrics and the type of music. As the song I have chosen is more of a love song I have decided to have locations in romantic places, or places which would usually be linked with romance in films, such as train stations when people are departing from each other and leaving. I also chose places which represent a journey through the song, like a small story which the song is showing.
Finally to create the complete video, and include everything in mise en scene, I would need to ensure that all my characters looked the part, which meant I would need to dress them the way the song would represent them in the video. In my music video I have chosen to go with a 1950’s/1960’s theme, which would mean the characters with in it would need to have costumes would fit in with the era of the video. I would also need to ensure that all the props used with in the video also fitted the narrative of the video, which would mean I would need to remember that technology was not as well developed in that era meaning that things such as mobile phones would look out of place in the video I intend to create.
